Remove yourself from BackgroundCheckers

Estimated time: 10 minutes. Difficulty: easy.

Steps

  1. Open the BackgroundCheckers opt-out page.
  2. Enter your first name, last name and state (city if asked) and click Search. Solve the CAPTCHA if one appears.
  3. Find your record — check age, city and relatives, since namesakes are common — and click the green arrow / Continue button on the right.
  4. Fill in the removal form: email address, full name, address and phone number. Use the address and phone exactly as they appear on the listing. Solve the CAPTCHA and click Submit.
  5. Open the email from BackgroundCheckers (check spam — it can take up to 48 hours to arrive) and click the "Click to Remove your information" link. Nothing happens until you click it. No ID upload is required.
  6. Removals usually process in 1–2 weeks. Then search www.backgroundcheckers.net again to confirm.
BackgroundCheckers.net shares its opt-out flow with PrivateRecords.net, PrivateReports.com and CheckSecrets.com, but each site needs its own opt-out. The form asks for a phone number and address — match what is on the listing. One request per listing, so search for old addresses and name variations too. Re-check every few months.
